Columbia Montour Vo-Tech downs Wellsboro, 41-19

Columbia Montour Vo-Tech scored a pair of touchdowns in the final minutes of the first half to key their 41-19 football win over Wellsboro Saturday night.

The 0-7 Hornets led 12-8 after one period and trailed by only two, 14-12, with two minutes to play in the first half. A pair of quick CMVT touchdowns however, put the game out of reach.

The first one, a 20 yard pass from Ziller to Higgins gave the hosts a 22-12 lead. Then, with the half winding down, Schmidt intercepted a Wellsboro pass and returned it 52 yards for another touchdown to make the score 28-12 at intermission.

Wellsboro led, 12-8, after one quarter of play. A Chris Morral 22 yard scamper with a recovered fumble put the Hornets on top 6-0.

Schmidt countered for Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, running 72 yards for a touchdown. The successful two-point conversion gave the home team an 8-6 edge.

Robbie Tallman caught a seven yard scoring strike from quarterback Chad Watters to put the Hornets back on top, 12-8.

Lawton scored on a six yard run midway through the second period to put CMVT back on top 14-12, then the two quick scores by Higgins and Schmidt made it 28-12.

In the third quarter, Higgins scored again, this time on a three yard run to make it 34-12. CMVT went up 41-12 in the final stanza as Ziller hit Temple with a 28 yard touchdown pass.

Watters and Morral closed out the scoring for the evening, as Watters ran in from four yards out and Morral booted the extra point.

Columbia Montour Vo-Tech rushed for 309 yards on 44 rushes, a seven yards per carry average, Ziller ran for a game high 134 yards on 19 attempts, Schmidt added 104 yards on 12 tries.

Morral went over the century mark running the ball for Wellsboro, gaining 105 yards on 23 totes.

Tallman caught three of Watters' four completions for 23 yards and a touchdown. Erick Crawford hauled in one for 17 yards.

Wellsboro's next game is at home Friday evening, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. versus Bucktail.
