Troy keeps Hornets winless, 40-13

The Wellsboro Hornet football team ended its 1991 season Friday night at home versus Troy in a Northern Tier League contest.

The Trojans came away with a convincing 40-13 road win to finish the season 9-1, 5-1 in NTL play Wellsboro fell to 0-11 on the season, 0-6 in league action.

Troy scored 14 first quarter points on a John Cole 53 yard interception return and a Kelly West three yard touchdown jaunt. A two-point conversion pass from Jason Madigan to Shane Morgan following West's run made it 14-0 after one period.

The Trojans increased their edge to 20-0 by the half on a 24 yard touchdown from Donnie White to Larry Matthews in the second quarter.

A seven yard scoring run by West and a Mike Zafferese 36 yard touchdown run in the third quarter upped Troy's lead to 34-0. Randy Gilhland kicked extra points after both scores.

Wellsboro got on the scoreboard twice in the final period.

Erick Crawford ran in from four yards out and Chris Morral scored on a 20 yard run. After his run, Morral also booted a successful point after.

John Blakely closed out the scoring on the evening, bulling over from 10 yards out for the Trojans late in the game.

Morral was the leading rusher on the night with 64 yards on 10 carries for Wellsboro.

Quarterback Jon Cox completed five-of-11 passes for the Hornets, with Morral catching a pair for 14 yards.
