Wellsboro wins 1st Homecoming since '02

By: Ed Weaver  /  October 20, 2006

The Wellsboro Hornets came into their Homecoming game against Cowanesque Valley looking for their third win of the season. Last year, the Indians put up a though struggle last year, but the Hornets had other plans for this year's game. From the opening kickoff, the Hornets dominated the Indians.

Senior Running Back Jake Monks made the first score of the evening, connecting on a pass from Senior Quarterback Tim Shaw. Shaw, along with Senior Running Back Jesse Tom, also added a pair of touchdowns in the first half. At half-time, Wellsboro was leading the Indians 34-0.

Wellsboro's first string remained in the game through the third quarter, scoring another touchdown while holding the Indians scoreless. With the game out of reach for the Indians at the start of the fourth quarter, many of Wellsboro's younger players saw some playing time. Cowanesque was able to score before the end of the fourth quarter, eliminating the Hornet shutout. When all was said and done, Wellsboro was on top, 41-7, improving their record on the year to 3-5 with two games remaining in the season.
