Celebrating 50 Years
By: Ed Weaver / September 27, 2008
Going undefeated in a season is special. So special in fact, that the Hornets have only accomplished this feat once in the team's history. 50 years ago, the 1958-1959 Hornets led by Head Coach Bill Johnson went 5-0-1 for Wellsboro's only undefeted season.
Members of the squad included Bill Suhr, Jim Worden, Freeman Smith, Gary Peake, Gary Kelly, Mike Burns, Gary Scranton, Keith Tombs, Hartley Cloos, Dave Luther, Paul Squires, Ken Monks, John Deibert, Jack Worden, Larry McElligott, Jim H. Callahan, Jim R. Callahan, Pete Losigner, Doug Webb, Fred Reynolds, Karl Wetherbee, Fred Metarko, Jerry Anderson, Gordie Gee, Elwyn Taynton, Gary Coolidge, Bob McConnell, Gene Root, Rodger Quimby, and Ron Patt.
From all current and former members of the Wellsboro football program, thank you all for your hard work and dedication to the program.
