Earlier this week, senior Cameron Brought signed his Letter of Intent to play football at Division III Alfred University.
Brought, who plans on majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in glass engineering, focused on finding a school with the right balance of athletics and academics.
"My goal was to find a top-notch engineering program combined with an offer to be a college athlete," he said. "After narrowing down my possibilities, Alfred stood out for its well known school of engineering, unique major of glass engineering, and a great experience with their football recruiting process."
Over the last two years Brought has been a leader on the defensive side of the ball for the Hornets, leading the team with 93 tackles as a junior and tied for the team lead with 100 tackles as a senior. Brought also led the Hornets this past season with 4 sacks and two recovered fumbles. Over his career, Brought recorded 197 tackles, made 6.5 sacks, and recovered 3 fumbles.
Brought first became aware of Alfred last summer when he attended a prospect day at the university.
"After that camp I went back for a game day visit and a talk with the coaching staff and players. The athletic facilities were really nice and I liked the impression I got of how the program is run. Coach Rankl was straightforward and made me feel as though I can make a solid contribution over the next four years and be a valuable part of the team. He kept in close contact with me over the past few months. I was torn between playing baseball or playing football in college because I love both sports, but as I thought about my options, Alfred became my top choice. I am excited to become a part of Alfred Football and I hope to make a positive impact and play my position the best I can."
Coach Rankl is also excited about getting Brought on campus.
"We are very excited to have Cameron joining our football program at Alfred University," said Coach Rankl. "He is an outstanding young man, and we believe that he has the talent, the work ethic and discipline to be an outstanding college football player. We are very excited to continue recruiting more great players across the northern tier."
Head coach Matt Hildebrand is proud of Brought's growth over the last four years and believes Alfred is getting a top-notch football player and young man.
"Cameron has epitomized what hard work and dedication can achieve," Hildebrand said. "As a freshman Cameron was undersized but would never be outworked. He dedicated himself to off-season work and getting better as player. Over the next three years Cam became a force on the football field. Cam led by example every time he stepped on the field no matter practice or game. Not only was Cam a great player he was an even better person. He has been one of the most coachable players I have had the privilege to work with. He was always respectful and represented our program with class in all that he did. Alfred is getting a player that will never be outworked both on the field and in the classroom. He is a young man of high integrity and class. Cameron has a very large upside to his football potential. Cameron will continue to grow both physically and mentally in his football journey. I would expect him to have a great career at Alfred and look forward to him seeing time early in his career.
"Personally I have been very impressed with the recruiting process of Alfred and Coach Rankl. I have dealt with many schools over the last 10 years and this has been one of the best recruiting process I have seen. They have been very professional and communicated well through the entire process."
"I would like to thank all of my Wellsboro coaches from over the years, my family, friends, and my teachers for their support because they have all helped me get to this point," concluded Brought. "Thanks also to Alfred Football for this great opportunity."
WellsboroFootball.com would like to congratulate Cameron on continuing his academic and athletic careers.
