Former head football coach Russ Manney was inducted into the District IV Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame's inaugural class of 2023 last Friday, June 23 during the association annual North-South All-Star game.
Manney made up the inaugural class's 8 members including: Jack Young, Jr. (Towanda), Max Shnyder, II (Milton), Ken Robbins (Loyalsock), Ray Raffin (Wyalusing), Joe "Jazz" Diminick (Mount Carmel), Bill Scott (Selinsgrove), and Jim Roth (Southern Columbia). He is also a member of Wellsboro's Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2018.
"It truly is an honor to be part of this inaugural class inducted into the District 4 Football Coaches Association's Hall-of-Fame," commented Manney. "To think, I am actually recognized with this group of distinguished coaches, three were my personal mentors, I am truly humbled. Each one of them played an intricate part in shaping my coaching philosophy, forming the D4 Combine, and the success of our District 4 Coaches Association. I would like to thank the committee, all the coaches who built the combine and association into what it is today, and those coaches (especially my assistants) who I had the opportunity to work with during my career. Most of all, a special thanks to my biggest fan and helper, my wife of 51 years, Carline. I could not have done it without her!"
