On the night where the Wellsboro Sports Booster Club and Athletic Department inducted its Hall of Fame Class of 2025, Wellsboro evened up their season record at 2-2 with a 33-12 victory over Towanda.

"We were able to establish a run game tonight and I thought our offensive line did a good job opening up holes and they gave our quarterback some time," head coach Matt Hildebrand said. "He made some throws and we still have some drops we need to clean up, but we got the win. We're teaching the kids to stack wins together, which is something we haven't done in a while. It feels really good and I'm really proud of them."

The Hornets wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as they scored on their opening drive. Sophomore Reed Richardson returned the opening kick 21 yards out to midfield, giving Wellsboro excellent starting field position. Wellsboro began marching downfield, and eventually capped the drive on an 8-yard run by Richardson with 6:10 remaining. After a three-and-out by the Black Knights on their opening drive struck for the second time as sophomore Griffin Morral connected with junior Max Mascho on a 50-yard pass. Senior Finn Matthews made the extra point, putting Wellsboro up 13-0.

Towanda got themselves back in the game with a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter. A Curtis Maynard 7-yard run just past the mid-point of the quarter, and a 27-yard field goal by Brayden Spencer cut Wellsboro's lead down to 13-9. However, the Hornets struck once more before the half as senior Marek Mascho hit the end zone from 11 yards out with just under two minutes remaining. Mascho's touchdown pushed the lead back to 19-9. The drive was highlighted by a pair of Morral to sophomore Kody Enck passes.

Towanda scored the third quarter's only points on another 27-yard field goal by Spencer, cutting the lead back down to 19-12.

Wellsboro's offense later struck twice in the fourth quarter to put the game away. With 10:16 to go, Morral connected with Enck on a 29-yard pass. Later, with 3:13 remaining, Morral called his own number and scored from 21 yards out.

Enck led Wellsboro's receivers with 133 yards on four grabs while Marek Mascho had two catches for 7 yards and Max Mascho finished with a catch for 50 yards. Morral completed 7-of-13 passes for 190 yards and a pair of scores through the air. He also rushed for 112 yards on 11 carries to go along with a touchdown. Marek Mascho finished with 88 yards on 15 totes.

Marek Mascho made 7 tackles to lead the Hornet defense. Sophomore Jorden Hines added 6 tackles and seniors Hayden Stevens and Dylan Copp, along with junior Levi Champaign all made 5 tackles. Stevens also registered a sack.

Reese Sluyter rushed for 117 yards for Towanda, and completed 6-of-12 passes for 41 yards. Curtis Maynard was the Black Knights' leading receiver with 29 yards on two catches.

"These kids have never beaten Towanda at any level," continued Hildebrand. "For them to get that done and the work they're putting in is starting to pay off. 'Finish' was our halftime message."

Wellsboro (2-2) travels to Westfield to take on the Cowanesque Valley Indians next Friday.
